How to choose the perfect colors for your skin tone

An LBD may be your best fashion friend, but sometimes the same color can get a little boring. The next time you're shopping for a dress, whether it be a cocktail dress, party dress or evening gown, choose a color that complements your skin tone so you can really stand out.

When out shopping, you can determine your ideal color palette by placing your hand next to a desired dress color. The colors should work well together, not contrast. Or to determine whether you'd look better in a warm or cool tone, use the gold and silver test. Put something that's metallic gold near your face in front of a mirror, then do the same with something that's metallic silver. You'll be able to see if your skin has more of a bluish (cool) or yellowish (warm) tint and you can pick colors that complement it.

What do you think? Are these the correct colors on these models?

Once you find colors that suit you, you don't have to stop wearing colors that may clash with your complexion. Just keep those colors further from your face. If pink doesn't go with your skin tone but you love it anyway, wear a pink purse or some bright pink shoes with a dress in a color that matches your skin tone. You'll be sure to turn heads.

Finding summer dresses for weddings

Summer is coming which means wedding season is officially here. As your calendar fills up with weddings and events to attend, you may be hunting for the perfect formal dress.

This is an opportunity to take advantage of the season’s bright colors and floral prints. Keep style and comfort in mind while looking for dresses for a wedding. If it’s outdoors, remember to dress for the weather. To better handle the heat and humidity, stick to lighter fabrics and shorter lengths.

While dressing for daytime nuptials, have fun by sporting a bright handbag. Add chunky, beaded jewelry for a more casual look. In the daytime, you can get away with strappy sandals or ballet flats. For evening, keep it formal with heels and understated jewelry.

It might not be your big day, but that shouldn’t stop you from having fun with your style!

Style tips to find the perfect mother of the bride gowns

As the mother of the bride, you want to look your best without taking the spotlight from your daughter on her wedding day. Unfortunately, mother of the bride dresses are historically matronly and dated. Don’t give up. You can be classy and appropriate without aging yourself.

Shop at your favorite stores. If possible, take your daughter along for the trip. She can help you find a dress that fits with the rest of the wedding, and her younger opinion can help you avoid the typical mother of the bride look. While you’re out shopping for the perfect dress, don’t think of yourself as the mother of the bride. Instead, treat it like any other shopping trip with the goal of finding formal dresses.

Remember, modesty doesn’t mean matronly. You can cover up and show off at the same time. Before you start trying on dresses, think about highlighting your favorite features. Try a long gown with a lower neckline, or even dare to go strapless. If your legs are your best asset, don’t be afraid to go shorter. Shorter doesn’t have to mean less formal.

What are you wearing to your Cinco de Mayo celebration?

Now that spring is in full swing, there are a whole host of fun and festive holidays on the calendar that will give you a chance to break out one of your favorite formal dresses. Cinco de Mayo is tomorrow, so if you're headed out for drinks with the girls or heading off to a bash, you'll want to be dressed in your best.

Cinco de Mayo comes with a surprising amount of versatility, and you can pull off anything from petite formal gowns to chic cocktail dresses with the right accessory combos. The holiday is best-known for its vibrant hues and gaudy jewelry, so opt for a selection of warm pastels paired with glittering metallic accessories to turn some heads at your bash.

Long, flowing statement necklaces are a great choice for the holiday, and you can pair them with chic cocktail rings and other chunky accessories to liven up your ensemble. If it happens to be a bit cool during your celebration, bring along a shawl or a sarong to give your outfit a pop of color and a functional touch.
No matter what you're doing for Cinco de Mayo, going for the gusto and taking a chance with your formal attire is a recipe for success during the holiday.
