Your guide to slits

Lots of gals opt to wear floor-length gowns to formal events - they're classic, elegant and beautiful, and you get a few opportunities in life to don one. But if long gowns have a drawback, it's that they're not always dripping in sex appeal. If you're looking to make your long dress a little flirtier, we have the answer - a slit.

Slits can be short - just a tiny peek-a-boo at the edge of your hem - or long, inching all the way up your leg to show off a hint of thigh. You can opt for a slit on the front, side or back of your dress - all have equal merits. If you want to highlight your derrier, a medium-length slit up the back of your dress is the way to do it. To show off those legs, channel Jessica Rabbit with a thigh-high side slit you can poke your high-heeled gam out of whenever you're feeling sexy.

A word of caution, however: Slits are definitely hot, so if you're going for a risque one, keep things demure up top. Serious cleavage and a long slit can easily take a formal dress into trashy territory, so cover up on top if you're planning to show off those legs.
