Pippa Middleton wears an elegant gown to charity benefit

Pippa Middleton has been the darling of fashion blogs and best-dressed lists ever since burst onto the scene following the royal wedding. She was recently spotted at a benefit for the UK charity Too Many Women, and she wore a dazzling form-fitting formal gown that was festooned with floral accents.
Middleton's silk formal dress was a delightfully tasteful take for the royal sister, and it eschewed the showing of skin for a sleek and elegant style that showed off her figure instead. Her choice of evening dresses featured a number of Asian-inspired floral patterns that worked their way around the entirety of the dress as well as the sleeves.

To top off her look, Pippa wore gilded tassel earrings and gave her eyes added definition with a touch of eyeliner. She also wore a bright and bold shade of lip color that stood out against the otherwise neutral backdrop of her dress.

Gowns are an opulent way of dressing for your next formal occasion, so keep an eye out for one when you're looking for dresses with an amazingly elegant style that you can wear throughout the holiday season.

Emma Stone showcases a stunning polka-dotted formal dress at movie premiere

At the London premiere of her new film, The Help, Emma Stone broke out a wholly unexpected formal dress that has been the subject of fashion blogs and best-dressed lists around the country. The actress wore a loose and billowy black and white polka-dotted gown and proved that the pattern has a fabulous ability to shock and surprise.
Emma Stone's choice of evening dresses was a completely neutral backdrop that allowed her other style elements to stand out beautifully. The dress used a white background with black polka-dots and she gave the look added definition by wearing a black belt around her waist.

What really stood out about Stone's ensemble was her choice of cosmetics. She wore a bright and bold red lipstick and paired it with a similar hue of nail polish. Against the black and white dress, this was a chic choice that gave her makeup added emphasis.

If you're thinking of sporting a neutral dress this fall, adding a few pops of color into your accessory and makeup choices will create a stunning look that's sure to impress.

Sleeves, sleeves, sleeves!

Sleeves are an excellent way to stay weather-appropriate at fall and winter gatherings, but there are so options - how's a girl to decide? Don't worry, we'll help break it down for you so you can see which kind of sleeves are right for you.

If you're going for a dress with a short hemline, long sleeves are an easy way to balance out your look. The longer sleeves, the shorter you can go on the bottom without looking inappropriate. Plus, a short dress with extra-long sleeves is a unique reversal that's sure to turn a few heads at your next formal event.

Cap sleeves are cute, flirty and add a touch of modesty to any gown. Cap sleeves can be simple, off-the-shoulder bits of fabric, or they can be big, puffy, impossible-to-miss additions that are sure to win you plenty of attention. Whichever you choose, be careful not to show off too much cleavage, since sleeves like this will frame your chest and automatically draw the eye to your decolletage. (Add a necklace for maximum impact!)

Want the best of both worlds? Try three-quarter length sleeves. Ending just below your elbow, sleeves like these are both demure and sexy.

Keep the sun shining in yellow

The days may be getting shorter, but lots of gals are keeping the sunshine alive by dressing up in bright, buttery yellow at their formal events.

Bumblebee yellow isn't for everyone, but plenty of stars have been seen rocking this bold hue lately. Kim Kardashian recently stepped out in a yellow sundress with three-quarter length sleeves, while Frida Pinto hit the red carpet in a yellow and black gown.

Both ladies looked ravishing in their designs, as the rich, vibrant yellow complemented their olive skin tones. But you don't need a nice summer tan to pull off this color - Ginnifer Goodwin also sported a yellow dress recently, looking like a breath of fresh air.

If neon yellow is a little too bold for you, there are plenty of other ways to wear the hue. Pastel yellow is an excellent option for a daytime event, and colors with a little more orange can work excellently for nighttime soirees in the autumn.

Whatever hue you choose, don't shy away from brightness!

Kirsten Dunst struts her stuff in an opulent black formal dress

The New York Film Festival is one of the most well-attended and glamorous functions on the calendar and Kirsten Dunst was one of the many who donned their best for the occasion. Dunst wore one of her favorite black dresses that featured a halter top and a sleek design that was perfect for the occasion.

A black dress is a fabulous choice for any formal occasion, but Dunst's outfit featured a gorgeous formal dress that was accented with a number of chic embellishments. For one, the top of her dress was tied at the top and small bits of fabric were wrapped lightly around her neck to add some texture to her look.
The remainder of the dress was a loose-fitting gown with a slight tail that only added to the beautiful nature of her outfit. To top it off, Dunst wore a pair of sparkling silver hoop earrings and a chunky cocktail ring to pull it all together.

Whether you're looking for holiday or evening dresses this fall, you can't go wrong with a black number. It will open up your style choices drastically and allow you to wear just about any accessory imaginable.

Sport a strapless dress when you're showcasing formal attire

When you're out shopping for evening dresses this fall, there are countless cuts and styles to choose from. One style that is absolutely timeless and always seems to be a fashion-forward look is the strapless dress. This chic look gives you a chance to show off both your pretty arms and neckline, and you'll get plenty of use out of it with the holiday season approaching.

One of the best features of strapless dresses are their ability to combine seamlessly with bright and bold accessories. A statement necklace can instantly jazz up your bare neckline, and a paire of beautiful hoop earrings can pair beautifully with the formal dress.

Bracelets are another few accessories that can instantly add some glamour to your look, so try similar or complementary colors to add to your ensemble. You can also go with bright neutrals such as silver or gold to add a touch of contrast.

Whatever style you choose to perk up the look of your fabulous strapless dress, you'll be satisfied knowing that you purchased a number that will never go out of style and can bright to light some of your best features.

Lace dresses are ideal choices for any season

There's something about a formal dress that features lace that never seems to go out of style, whether the entire outfit features the material or if it just showcases a few embellishments. Charlize Theron donned one of these ensembles for a recent charity gala for the Africa Outreach Project, and her getup for the occasion was a gorgeous black lace cocktail dress that illuminated some unique style choices that fashionistas should try this fall.

Theron's dress was a lace sheath dress that featured a number of floral patterns and sat just above her knee. The form-fitting number was an enchanting choice for the red carpet, and she paired it with some matching black heels and a woven clutch to pull her entire ensemble together.

Lace is an extremely functional fabric that can be woven into countless outfits. When you're shopping for dresses this fall, the style could be an intriguing choice for the big dance. Be sure to pay special attention to your textured elements - pair the style with matching footwear and use your accessories as the main source of color for your outfit.

Your guide to slits

Lots of gals opt to wear floor-length gowns to formal events - they're classic, elegant and beautiful, and you get a few opportunities in life to don one. But if long gowns have a drawback, it's that they're not always dripping in sex appeal. If you're looking to make your long dress a little flirtier, we have the answer - a slit.

Slits can be short - just a tiny peek-a-boo at the edge of your hem - or long, inching all the way up your leg to show off a hint of thigh. You can opt for a slit on the front, side or back of your dress - all have equal merits. If you want to highlight your derrier, a medium-length slit up the back of your dress is the way to do it. To show off those legs, channel Jessica Rabbit with a thigh-high side slit you can poke your high-heeled gam out of whenever you're feeling sexy.

A word of caution, however: Slits are definitely hot, so if you're going for a risque one, keep things demure up top. Serious cleavage and a long slit can easily take a formal dress into trashy territory, so cover up on top if you're planning to show off those legs.

Utilize your own personal style when shopping for homecoming dresses

Many young ladies treat the homecoming dance as their coming out party where they try to pull off a bold and inventive fashion choice to steal some attention on the dance floor. However, oftentimes it's better to stay within your own personal style and give it a bit of a face lift for the occasion.

If you're not a rocker glam kind of girl, your outfit may seem out of place. Stick to your favorite hues and dress cuts and take some chances with your cosmetics and accessory choices. A formal dress that is accented by a bold shade of eyeshadow or a fresh and vibrant lip color could make a much bigger impact than going over the top with wild cocktail dresses.

Don't ignore your footwear choices either - color blocking is a huge trend in the fashion world, so if you have a complementary color or a lighter or darker shade of the same hue, it will be a fantastic addition to your ensemble.

When you're out shopping for homecoming dresses this fall, embrace your own sense of style and perk up your look with dazzling accents instead of trying to reinvent yourself.

Sofia Vergara shows off a stunning way to wear a one-shoulder dress

The 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards is one of fashion's biggest events of the year. Some of the most notable stars from the small screen strutted their stuff on the red carpet, and the frequent show-stopper Sofia Vergara showed yet again why she has her pulse on the most chic methods of wearing a formal dress.

Vergara wore a scintillating coral formal gown that illuminated her hourglass shape and was a whimsical mix of textured and form-fitting elements. The front of the dress looked like a standard strapless number, but a single fold of fabric worked its way down her shoulder, around her waist and out to the dress' tail for a chic blend of contrasting features.

To top off her look, Vergara wore some enchanting chandelier earrings and a simple gold cuff bracelet. These were fabulous choices that worked to add some warmth to her ensemble without overpowering it with too much sparkle.

Coral is one of the hottest hues in the fashion world, so when you're out shopping for homecoming dresses, consider combining the shade with gold jewelry and other stylish elements to make a big impression at the dance.
