Busy dresses don't need flashy accessories

Zoe Saldana is a fashion risk-taker, which explains her dramatic ensemble at a recent Colombiana screening.

Zoe's mini, long-sleeved dress bared some serious skin, with a plunging V-neck almost down to her belly-button and a hemline hitting at the tops of her thighs. A long draped detail was attached at the hip, but it only covered the rear, leaving the front open and her legs exposed. The fabric featured a busy pattern of gold and silver embroidered embellishments in all kinds of shapes and stripes. White shoulder details gave the look some structure.

Accessories are unnecessary when you have a very detailed dress, which is why Zoe went minimal with a pair of diamond stud earrings. Strappy black heels added a level or fierceness and matched her sultry manicure. She pulled her hair back into a low updo and went all-out with her makeup, using a cat-eye liner to define her eyes and a pink lipstick to gloss her pout.

If you're looking to spice up your next social occasion, a dress like Zoe's takes some guts. You can get a similar effect without having to bare tons of skin by choosing a piece with interesting details and pairing it with simple, understated accessories. If you do show a bit of skin, keep it to one area, like your chest or your legs to avoid looking too bare.
