Get major texture with ruffles for prom this year

Ladies shopping for prom may have thought about ways to get standout looks, but nothing is hotter than texture this year. Sure, it's always refreshing to see unusual color combinations, asymmetrical silhouettes or eccentric headpieces, but textures appeal to your tactile senses as well, and who doesn't want a dress that they can't keep their hands off of?

Let Ginnifer Goodwin be your style guru - the Big Love star showed up to the Art of Elysium auction in Hollywood wearing an aeye-catching black minidress with cascading ruffles. She looked every part the alluring pixie with her newly cropped do, fun, flouncy dress and adorable red satin peep-toe pumps.

Ruffles are one form of texture that can be worn in many ways, and Goodwin's exemplar is but the tip of the iceberg. Look for prom dresses that feature feminine ruffles on an asymmetrical hem, ruffled skirts, a neckline that features gathered fabric or perhaps a coordinating clutch with a ruffled texture.

You'll want to coordinate this well to really pull it off, so make sure to balance the equation with smooth-textured shoes and accessories.
