New Feature: Ask TJFormal!

Today we introduce a new feature here on the TJFormal blog: Ask TJFormal! We get many questions asked frequently, so we want to highlight some of them so you will have all the information you need to shop at

Q: When should I plan on ordering a dress for Prom?

The short answer is “As soon as possible!” The earlier you choose and order your dress, the better the chance you will actually get your first choice. We hear a lot of girls ask “I can order this later, right?” once they’ve found their dress. But you are taking a big risk if you wait. Just because we do special orders, does not mean we can get any dress in time for your prom.

The longer explanation: Dresses do sell out during prom season and it’s best to shop early. Most dresses are made in China, many are hand-beaded and these take 8-10 weeks to special order. Chinese New Year is celebrated in the early months of the year. The date changes each year, but in 2010, it starts on Feb. 14. During this time, all factories in China are closed and no dresses are made. If you order the dress during this time, it will add 2-3 weeks to the production time, which may mean you won’t get it in time for your prom.

Follow what happens when Bethie needs a prom dress...

Checking her prom date...

Bethie dreams about her dress for weeks, imagines herself in it and how her boyfriend is going to love it...she can't wait!

And when she goes online to order it...

If your prom is in March or April, and you have not yet ordered your dress, you should order it immediately. Have a list of possible dresses ready in case you can’t get your top choice. Don't let this happen to you!!

Stay tuned to see how Bethie chooses another dress she loves and gets it in time for her prom...
